How To Make Filters For Biodiesel At Home

Making filters for biofuel need not be complicated or expensive a simple filter which uses gravity to draw the fuel through the filter is very cheap to make and even cheaper to run! You do not need electricity to run a pump if the fuel is filtered using gravity!

It is very easy to make a home made filtration system for biodiesel. When you are making bio fuel at home you will need to filter it many times to remove solid particles at various stages in the process. To make your own filters you will need;

  • 3 2 litre Coke Bottle
  • Two Coffee Filter papers
  • A Sharp Knife

First cut the top from two Coke bottles and the bottom from the third Coke bottle and push your first coffee filter right to the end of the bottles neck.

Push the filter paper right down so that it touches the sides of the bottle all the way round and insert one of the tops that you have removed from the coke bottles, this acts as a seal and keeps the first filter paper in place. Coke bottles are a remarkable design and fit together easily to make your filter system.

A second filter paper is then inserted on top of the first creating two filters in series this ensures that all the bio diesel goes through the filter.
Here you can see the two filter papers in series the biodiesel must pass through both papers before being collected in the container units you have made by cutting the tops used to lock the filter papers in place.

The filtration unit fits nicely into the collection units at the bottom because the coke bottles are so well designed.

The second filter paper is locked in place by the second top that was removed from the Coke bottle to make the collection unit. The filtration unit is now ready to use!

These filters can be used at all stages of the biodiesel production process and you can see the filtered bio fuel being collected at the bottom of the filter.

It is not necessary to spend a fortune on expensive filters you can make good biodiesel at home just using household items, such as Coke bottles and coffee filter papers it really is that simple to build your own biofuel filtration system!

Quick Guide to Biodiesel

With rising fuel costs there has been a rising interest to look a better fuel. Most drivers want something more economical when it comes to fuel. A number of them want a type of fuel that is cleaner and safer. Almost all of them want such fuel without paying more than expected.

Since then, the market has seen a number of new fuels being introduced as an alternative and some have taken off rather well. Biodiesel is one such fuel alternative that offers a glimpse of the what the fuel would be in the future.

The Difference in Biodiesel

One nice feature that makes Biodiesel a good alternative fuel is that you will not need to get a new, special car or even modify your current vehicle in order use Biodiesel. As long as your car uses diesel as fuel, you can use Biodiesel.

Bio-diesel is very different from regular diesel, but in positive ways. Biodiesel burns like any other diesel which is the very reason why you can use it in your car without modifications. In addition, Biodiesel is proven to burn cleaner, so your engine will experience lesser wear and tear. Also, it creates lesser pollution. Did I also say that it is safe? Yes, Biodiesel has lesser chance of explosion or fire so it is a safe fuel.

Blended

Most commercial Bio diesel in the market today are blended version. In short, Biodiesel and regular diesel are mixed at various levels. This is done because pure Biodiesel does not work well with traditional rubber parts in vehicles. Hoses and other rubber parts in the car will wear down over time with Biodiesel use. The solution to avoid this common issue is to mix Biodiesel and regular diesel together.

B100 (ie. 100% Biodiesel) is non-blended Bio diesel which can be found in the market. So why are they still sold? This is because some car owners have removed the rubber parts in their engine . They will get the best benefit from using pure Biodiesel, take note that a mixed Biodiesel is still better than straight diesel fuel and it can be used in most diesel cars without issue.

Clearing the Myths of Bio Diesel

There are quite a number of myths about Biodiesel that make people become critical on the usability. The issue of Biodiesel breaking down rubber parts of the engine is not an issue at all. It is not expensive when it comes to changing the rubber parts compared to the trouble arises from using regular diesel. Biodiesel is much cleaner and so it will greatly reduce the effects of wear and tear. This will also mean that you will have lesser servicing done to your vehicle

People are starting to see that Biodiesel is a head above the rest. Despite all the adverse talks and the rumours, Biodiesel is a proven alternative fuel for you and me.
