How To Make Filters For Biodiesel At Home

Making filters for biofuel need not be complicated or expensive a simple filter which uses gravity to draw the fuel through the filter is very cheap to make and even cheaper to run! You do not need electricity to run a pump if the fuel is filtered using gravity!

It is very easy to make a home made filtration system for biodiesel. When you are making bio fuel at home you will need to filter it many times to remove solid particles at various stages in the process. To make your own filters you will need;

  • 3 2 litre Coke Bottle
  • Two Coffee Filter papers
  • A Sharp Knife

First cut the top from two Coke bottles and the bottom from the third Coke bottle and push your first coffee filter right to the end of the bottles neck.

 Push the filter paper right down so that it touches the sides of the bottle all the way round and insert one of the tops that you have removed from the coke bottles, this acts as a seal and keeps the first filter paper in place. Coke bottles are a remarkable design and fit together easily to make your filter system.

 A second filter paper is then inserted on top of the first creating two filters in series this ensures that all the bio diesel goes through the filter.
 Here you can see the two filter papers in series the biodiesel must pass through both papers before being collected in the container units you have made by cutting the tops used to lock the filter papers in place.

The filtration unit fits nicely into the collection units at the bottom because the coke bottles are so well designed.

The second filter paper is locked in place by the second top that was removed from the Coke bottle to make the collection unit. The filtration unit is now ready to use!

 These filters can be used at all stages of the biodiesel production process and you can see the filtered bio fuel being collected at the bottom of the filter.

It is not necessary to spend a fortune on expensive filters you can make good biodiesel at home just using household items, such as Coke bottles and coffee filter papers it really is that simple to build your own biofuel filtration system!
